In our Senior Director of Business Development role, you will have an opportunity to do it all. The American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) is the nation’s leading professional association dedicated to the advancement of respiratory therapists and healthcare providers involved in cardiopulmonary medicine. Position Overview:

The Sr. Director of Business Development will be responsible for the generation of non-dues revenue for the organization. This includes, but is not limited to revenue developed through sponsorships, advertising, grants, special projects, affinity partnerships, product and program management and corporate partnerships.

The Sr. Director of Business Development is responsible for all aspects of the revenue-generating project life cycle from procurement of funding, resource allocation, project management and distribution to stakeholder groups. In collaboration with executive stakeholders, the Sr. Director of Business Development will also reimagine, develop, and launch new product lines, sponsorship opportunities and co-marketing agreements which create revenue streams on behalf of the association.

This position will manage the AARC’s Corporate Partner program, which is offered to hospitals and industry. It is the Sr. Director of Business Development’s responsibility to oversee, liaise with, and expand strong corporate relationships between the AARC and existing partners and to develop new partnership opportunities. This position will serve as a forward-facing representative of the Association to all relevant external stakeholder organizations as determined by the Executive Director.

Principal Responsibilities: 

Corporate Partnerships

  • Manage and grow Corporate Partner program and communications with external stakeholder groups and increase opportunities for engagement
  • Monitor industry trends and use to create opportunities for Corporate Partner initiatives
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of AARC products and services and pursue potential to innovate to develop new offerings or business models
  • Host focus groups with Corporate Partners to identify value-added benefits
  • Through an intuitive understanding of Corporate Partner needs, product development, drug development, product/drug life cycle and R&D, develop offerings and strategic plans which will and grow the number of Corporate Partners

Product/Program Management

  • Oversee product development, life cycle, distribution, and quality assurance.
  • Liaise with vendors, drive opportunities for advertising and other revenue-generation opportunities
  • Use learning from industry to suggest opportunities to innovate new products and programs and to enter adjacent markets.
  • Manage AARC Store including product adoption and inventory control.
  • Collaborate with executive RT leaders/volunteers to establish clinical resources.
  • Perform market analysis for each product and establish new price points based on prevailing market conditions.

Revenue Generation

  • Through independent discovery, curate and solicit special projects, grants, and year-round sponsorships to appropriate stakeholder groups.
  • Collaborate with the Meetings & Conventions department to secure corporate sponsorships for AARC meetings and events.
  • Provide consultation to establish a digital advertising strategy and drive digital advertising opportunities to the 3rd party digital advertisement firm.
  • Constantly perform environmental scans of AARC’s professional market segment. Collaborate with internal stakeholder groups to innovate and develop non-dues revenue opportunities.
  • Identify affinity programs which deliver value to AARC members. Service as a liaison to affinity partners. Generate quarterly royalty reports to monitor progress.

Budgetary, Revenue and Expense responsibilities

  • Perform detailed analyses of corporate and market stakeholder groups
  • Establish revenue goals/targets, acknowledge that performance will be largely driven by ability to meet revenue goals
  • Evaluate revenue performance, forecast future revenues
  • Prepare financial reports
  • Construct annual expense budget

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required
  • Master’s degree preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Attributes

  • Must possess strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Must be comfortable managing corporate relationships at the executive level, selling and closing on revenue opportunities.
  • Must have experience in soliciting transactions of a minimum of $50,000 from industry and/or other like partners.
  • Must be independent, self-driven and accountable for your own performance, including, but not limited to the achievement of revenue targets and personal goals.
  • Able to work independently or in a team. Willing to place goals of the AARC above those of their own.
  • Ability to critically think and problem solve.

Required Length and Type of Experience

  • At least 7 (seven) years of fundraising, sales, revenue generation and/or business development experience
  • Understanding of the respiratory profession, medical equipment, pharmaceutical industry, or medical affairs experience strongly preferred.
