- Bridge Construction Estimator
Description
Seeking a full time on site Estimator with an education and experience in bridge construction to calculate the total cost for bidding bridgework by analyzing blueprints, materials (steel, concrete), labor, equipment, site conditions, and project timelines to provide accurate bids. Must have experience in using specialized software and databases for complex heavy civil highway projects, requiring expertise in structural components and heavy construction methods.
Key Responsibilities
Analyze Plans: Review engineering drawings, structural notes, and specifications for materials (e.g., steel grades, coatings) and design options.
Cost Calculation: Estimate costs for materials, labor (including specialized trades like welders, piling crews), equipment, and site preparation.
Quantity Take-Offs: Determine the quantities of materials needed (e.g., cubic yards of concrete, tons of steel).
Budgeting: Develop comprehensive project budgets, including direct and indirect costs, overhead, and profit.
Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks and apply contingencies to account for unforeseen conditions, like difficult soil or complex site access.
Bidding: Prepare competitive bids for clients, often for large infrastructure projects with Departments of Transportation (DOTs) across the country.
Requirements
College degree required
Must currently live in the Chicago area
Must be authorized to with in the USA without sponsorship
Work history in Heavy Civil Experience: Strong background in highway, marine, railroad, and bridge construction.
Technical Knowledge: Understanding of bridge types (beam, truss, etc.), structural components, and construction processes.
Software Proficiency: Use of estimating software, spreadsheets (Excel), and potentially Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools.
Attention to Detail: Meticulous review of complex project documents to avoid costly errors.
