The Technology Platforms Division (TPD) drives the growth of Rakuten's ecosystem by delivering innovative, high-quality technology platforms characterized by integrated control and strategic partnerships.
Within TPD, the Cloud Platform Supervisory Department (CPSD) develops and manages Rakuten's state-of-the-art cloud platform, empowering global scalability and accelerating innovation across its diverse business units.
Department Overview
The Cloud Services Department (CLSD) at Rakuten Group provides high-quality cloud infrastructure and platform services to application developers across Rakuten. Our mission is to enable secure, scalable, and efficient digital innovation.
We deliver key domain services, including compute, storage, core infrastructure components, databases, container platform, observability, and gateway solutions, empowering Rakuten application teams to focus on their core business objectives.

Position Details
We are seeking a highly organized, proactive, and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Project Manager. This role is multifaceted, encompassing project management, financial analysis, resource allocation, and general operational support for our engineering group. The ideal candidate will possess a strong sense of ownership, a "Get Things Done" attitude, and the ability to navigate both technical and administrative challenges within a fast-paced, large enterprise environment. You will be instrumental in ensuring projects are delivered on time, resources are optimally managed, and our services align with financial objectives.
Key Responsibilities
1) Task & Project Management
- Planning, progress management, risk management, and reporting for each task and project
- Create Mid/long term plan project plan
- Support review/approval of release operation
- Communication with other departments and internal clients
- Management of product backlog
- Other tasks which are required for maintenance/growth of the product
- Report project/product situation to upper management
2) Financial & Server Resource Management
- Billing Report (Monthly): Report usage of our services for each user to charge to the users. Also, investigate the usage detail and explain to the users when they make inquiries
- Server Resource Adjustment (Monthly): Summarize usage forecasts from users and calculate the necessary number of servers
- Server Resource Allocation (On Demand): Allocate the procured servers to users based on priority
- Sales & Cost Analysis (Monthly): Create KPI reports on the sales, costs, and profits of each of our services
- Budget Planning (Yearly): Carry out the budget planning for next year, based on user usage forecasts and the plan of the group
- Conduct sales and cost simulations and analyses when launching new services or products (On Demand)
3) General Non-Engineering Operations & Support
- Responding to inquiries from users
- Getting user sign-off for planned maintenances
- Managing surveys for users
- Managing daily engineering tasks (operational tasks) (prioritization, assignment, progress management)
- Performing other tasks that arise within the Group
Work Environment
- Team Size: 17 members
- Team Structure: Two distinct teams, with a mix of new graduates (15%) and mid-career professionals (85%)
- Languages: Go, Python
- Infrastructure: Private Cloud (Baremetal, VM, Container)
- Provisioning/Operation: Ansible, multiple in-house tools (Go/Python), Operator
- Framework (e.g., Red Hat Operator Framework), Jenkins, Helm
- Monitoring: Prometheus, Cortex, Grafana, Kibana, Datadog, PagerDuty
- CI/CD: Jenkins, in-house Python tool
- Knowledge Management: Confluence
- Project Management: JIRA
- Communication: Slack, MS Teams, Viber
Mandatory Qualifications:
- A strong drive for career advancement and a commitment to continuous improvement, not content with the status quo
- Demonstrated ability to proactively identify challenges, propose solutions, and take initiative without constant direction
- Views challenges as personal problems to solve within a rapidly evolving industry and company
- Solid knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and practical experience with project methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Waterfall). A strong commitment to team deadlines
- Experience in development or project management within Web, Cloud, or Linux software development environments
- Proven ability to lead and facilitate productive meetings, including real-time minute-taking and summarizing conversations effectively, without requiring extensive post-meeting summarization
Desired Qualifications:
- Skill in proposing and implementing innovative methods or processes to improve team efficiency and output, based on a deep understanding of underlying contexts, rather than blindly following existing procedures
- Competence with advanced Excel functions such as SUMIFS, XLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, and Spill functions and PC skills
- Agreement with Rakuten's philosophy "Rakuten Shugi" and a desire for long-term collaboration
- Experience with basic scripting or programming (e.g., Python, Shell scripting) for automation or data manipulation
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field
- Knowledge and/or experience with public cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, Azure) and/or container technologies (Docker/Kubernetes)
