Job responsibilities
Governance & "Trust" Management
- Stakeholder Alignment (Nemawashi): You are responsible for the formal and informal consensus-building required to move a project forward. This involves navigating the hierarchy of Japanese organizations to ensure "Buy-in" from the decision makers.
- Steering Committee Leadership: Preparing and presenting high-level progress reports to C-suite executives, focusing on risk mitigation and ROI.
- Quality Assurance (Monozukuri Mindset): Ensuring the final product meets the high "Japanese Standard" of polish, which often exceeds the "Minimum Viable Product" (MVP) logic used elsewhere.
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Build and maintain trusted advisor relationships with executive and operational stakeholders
- Manage client expectations related to scope, timeline, budget, and delivery outcomes
- Lead regular governance and status meetings using project dashboards, burn reports, and metrics
- Facilitate design workshops and requirement sessions with business and technical stakeholders
- Support engagement managers with account growth, renewals, and repeat business opportunities
- While Salesforce projects aim for Agile, many Japanese clients still require a Waterfall-style reporting structure. As a PM support, the translation of Agile velocity and story points into traditional "Gantt Chart" milestones to satisfy the client's PMO.
Financial & Resource Orchestration
- P&L Responsibility: Managing the project budget, tracking "Burn Rates," and ensuring the IT services firm remains profitable while delivering value.
- Global Delivery Coordination: Managing the relationship between the local Japanese front-office and offshore/nearshore delivery centers (e.g., India, Vietnam, or Philippines).
- Resource Forecasting: Ensuring the right mix of Architects, BAs, and Developers are assigned to the project phases.
- Revenue Recognition: Working with Finance to ensure project milestones are met and invoiced correctly.
Project & Program Management
- Leverage the appropriate project delivery methodology (Agile/Waterfall) to manage project teams consisting of business and technical resources.
- Oversee multiple client projects through all phases of the project lifecycle (sales, planning, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and support)
- Define and manage project plans, governance models, timelines, milestones, budgets, and success metrics
- Identify and manage cross-project dependencies and risks; act as escalation point for critical issues
- Proactively identify delivery risks and implement mitigation and recovery plans
- Own estimation processes and delivery forecasts across initiatives
- Take accountability for overall risk, quality, and delivery outcomes within assigned portfolio
Risk & Scope Guarding
- Scope Creep Defense: Japanese clients often expect "service" (free additions) to be included in the contract. A PM must diplomatically negotiate Change Requests (CRs) to protect the project timeline and budget. Perform impact analysis for scope changes and prepare change requests or future phase plans
- Issue Escalation: Being the "Shield" for the technical team. If a project hits a roadblock, the PM manages the client's anxiety and provides a clear recovery plan.
- Ensure project delivery strictly aligns with approved Statements of Work (SOW)
- Develop detailed delivery estimates covering development, testing, training, deployment, and post-production support
Project Delivery & Solution Oversight
- Translate business requirements into scalable, well-architected Salesforce solutions, minimizing unnecessary customisation
- Collaborate with Solution Architects and Technical Leads to design best-practice solutions across Salesforce platforms
- Ensure complete traceability between requirements, design, configuration, and delivery
- Lead solution walkthroughs, demos, and design reviews with senior stakeholders
- Oversee test strategy, system testing, UAT, and Go-Live readiness
- Balance declarative configuration vs custom development decisions
- Ensure delivery of high-quality documentation, training materials, and knowledge transfer
Team Leadership & Capability Development
- Lead, mentor, and coach project managers, functional consultants, and delivery team members
- Manage distributed onshore/offshore teams across time zones
- Drive team performance, utilisation, and continuous improvement
- Participate in hiring, interviewing, and onboarding of project and consulting roles
- Collaborate with R&D teams to identify market needs and contribute to solution accelerators
Salesforce & Industry Leadership
- Stay current with Salesforce product releases, roadmap updates, and emerging capabilities
- Provide thought leadership through internal enablement, client presentations, and industry forums
- Support sales initiatives, solution positioning, and pre-sales activities
- Contribute to the continuous evolution of GlobalLogic's delivery operating model
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Project Margin: The profitability of the project they are managing
- On-Time/On-Budget Delivery: On-time, On-budget %
- Scope management: Prevents the common pitfall of "Service-gifting" (unpaid work).
- Client Satisfaction -
- Maintaining a CSAT of >= 4.8/5 for projects in the region
- Escalation Rate: 0 major escalations or requiring intervention from the Delivery Manager
- Attrition Rate: Keeping talent turnover low in a competitive Salesforce market.
