The Assistant Director for Advancement Communications writes compelling philanthropic content, including solicitation letters and emails, cases, proposals, impact stories, stewardship materials and more, designed to inspire patients, alumni and others in the community to support our mission. This position will ensure that our communications to current and prospective donors are persuasive, inspiring, effective and follow the evolving best practices of philanthropic writing.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
Duty 1: Writing and editing:
• Write effective annual philanthropy solicitation letters, emails, and website and digital advertising copy.
• Write and edit cases and proposals for major giving.
• Write stories that demonstrate the impact of giving and inspire people to give again.
• Write and edit stewardship communications.
• Write other copy as needed for donor, prospect and alumni audiences.
• Advise on strategy for solicitations and donor communications.
Duty 2: Project management:
• Manage writing and editing projects using project management software.
• Track deadlines and keep projects moving through approvals on time.
Duty 3: Collaborating with Advancement teams:
• Serve as liaison to a Fundraising Team in the Advancement office.
• Collaborate closely with the Donor Relations and Annual Philanthropy team on stewardship and solicitation writing needs.
• Build relationships with editors and writers across UW and UW Medicine to keep abreast of trends and opportunities.

This position does not have a direct report.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor's Degree in related field; or an equivalent combination of formal training, education and/or practical experience in editing and writing for fundraising.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant philanthropy writing experience particularly in annual giving solicitations, digital content that drives online donations, and major gift cases and proposals.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Knowledge of development/advancement/alumni relations principles. Knowledge of healthcare fundraising practices.
