Description
About ai&ai& is a new global AI technology company dedicated to meeting the world's growing demand for AI. Our vision is twofold: to serve as a premier AI lab specializing in localization, and to act as a global infrastructure and compute provider. We are building a unified, optimized global platform that integrates next-generation data centers and infrastructure, heterogeneous compute serving, and advanced model services. We believe that the most effective way to build and scale AI is to own the stack from top to bottom.
At ai&, we empower small teams with the autonomy needed to tackle significant challenges. Our approach is to deconstruct large problems into manageable components and solve complex issues collaboratively. We seek highly motivated, mission-driven individuals who demonstrate strong personal agency. We value curiosity as the foundation of talent, and we are looking for people eager to develop alongside our evolving technology and expanding business.
We are actively hiring worldwide, with presence in Tokyo, SF, Austin, and Toronto. We are more than happy to meet exceptional talent where they are.
Role overview
As our Data Center Project Manager, you will own the delivery of ai&'s data center projects from initiation through commissioning. You will manage scope, schedule, budget, and stakeholders across complex, multi-disciplinary builds involving electrical, mechanical, civil, and IT infrastructure workstreams. You are the person who keeps everything moving, surfaces risks early, and ensures delivery happens on time and to specification.
You will work closely with the data center architects, electrical engineers, facility operations, and systems teams - as well as external contractors, vendors, and colocation partners. This is a hands-on execution role. You are in the detail, on site when needed, and always across what every workstream is doing.
Responsibilities
- Project Delivery Ownership Own the full project lifecycle for data center builds and fit-outs from planning through commissioning. Manage scope, schedule, budget, risk, and quality across all workstreams.
- Stakeholder & Contractor Management Manage relationships with contractors, vendors, consultants, and colocation partners. Ensure all parties are aligned on scope, schedule, and deliverables. Hold external parties accountable to their commitments.
- Schedule & Budget Control Develop and maintain detailed project schedules and budgets. Track progress against plan, identify variances early, and implement corrective actions to keep projects on track.
- Risk Management Proactively identify and manage project risks across technical, commercial, and construction workstreams. Escalate issues clearly and with recommended solutions.
- Commissioning Coordination Coordinate the commissioning process across mechanical, electrical, and IT systems. Ensure integrated systems testing is planned and executed thoroughly before handover to operations.
- Reporting & Documentation Maintain accurate project documentation and provide clear, concise reporting to leadership on project status, risks, and decisions required.
You may be a fit if you have the following skills
- Data Center Project Management Experience Proven experience managing the delivery of data center or critical infrastructure projects. You have taken projects from design through commissioning and you know the workstreams involved.
- Construction & Technical Coordination Experience coordinating across electrical, mechanical, civil, and IT workstreams. You understand the interfaces between disciplines and you manage them proactively.
- Schedule & Budget Discipline Strong project controls capability. You build schedules that are honest, track against them rigorously, and manage budgets with precision.
- Japan Construction Experience Familiarity with construction processes, permitting, and contractor management in Japan is a strong signal.
- Bilingual Fluency Professional fluency in Japanese and English is required.
- Great Team Spirit A mission-driven approach to delivery, valuing clear communication, rigorous execution, and collective success.
